Objectives

What the project set out to do

  • Deliver a durable pavement suited to heavy urban traffic
  • Solve chronic stormwater flooding along the alignment
  • Improve pedestrian safety with walkways and lighting
Challenges

What we were up against

Live traffic maintenance

The corridor carries heavy daily traffic. Works were phased with signed diversions to keep the route operational throughout construction.

Utility conflicts

Existing water, telecoms, and power utilities in the road reserve required coordinated relocation with each utility owner.

Approach

How we delivered

Stabilised sub-base

Cement-stabilised sub-base under the heavy-traffic lanes extended pavement life and reduced long-term maintenance.

Precast drainage

Precast reinforced-concrete drain sections accelerated drainage construction and improved quality consistency.

Engineering

Pavement was designed to the Nigerian Highway Manual with a 20-year design life for the anticipated traffic loading. Drainage was hydraulically sized for a 1-in-25-year storm return period.

Execution

Works were phased into 800 m sections, each with dedicated traffic-management crews. Materials testing was conducted daily on subgrade CBR, sub-base density, and asphalt Marshall stability.

Quality

All pavement layers were tested to specification with 100% record retention. Every reinforced-concrete drain pour was cube-tested to C25/30 minimum characteristic strength.

Outcome

The completed road link has restored a critical Ogun State corridor, eliminated the previous flooding hotspots, and provides safer pedestrian access for the communities along the alignment.
